Suffolk GP Federation - From Extended Access pilot to processing 40,000 shifts per year!


Suffolk GP Federation launched an extended access pilot in 2015 and required a solution that could both effectively schedule staff and ensure prompt payment. Fairness and consistency were also of paramount importance when procuring a new software  


Project Manager, Sally White had used RotaMaster in a previous role and knew that the software would go above and beyond what the GP Federation required.

Three products were chosen to meet the needs of the team:

  • RotaMaster core product
  • Finance+
  • People+

The RotaMaster core product was quick and simple to set up, ensuring there were no gaps in the rota. Added to this, the smart allocation wizard tool within RotaMaster was able to automate the distribution of shifts fairly and in accordance with staff compliance and qualification.

Finance+ ensured the smooth running of payroll and prompt payment of staff.

When the extended access pilot became permanent for the GP Federation, the People+ module was added to the service and used alongside their incumbent HR system. This ensured staff were correctly categorised and met with regulatory compliance for scheduling.


RotaMaster is currently being used to manage 345 staff members and has processed 40,000 shifts in the past twelve months – totalling 123,000 hours of work (between June 2021 and June 2022).
